The Arkansas Handbook for Educational Interpreters/Transliterators, Teachers and Administrators—Third Edition 2000, specifies that, “Interpreters in the educational setting must meet or exceed…a minimum Level 3 in Transliterating on the Mid-America Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST) and Level 2 in Interpreting or minimum QAST Level 3 in Interpreting and QAST Level 2 in Transliterating.”
To help interpreters working in Arkansas public schools meet this requirement, Educational Services for the Hearing Impaired (ESHI), Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education, will be offering a one-day workshop for educational interpreters, on Monday, November 8, 2004. Making American Sign Language (ASL) Understandable: Using Classifiers and Other Features, presented by Eddie Schmeckenbecher, CSC, instructor, UALR.
