Ark. Code Annotated § 6-16-501 (Act 546 of 2003) mandates the inclusion of organ and tissue donor instructional materials in driver education courses and high school health classes beginning with the 2004-2005 school year.
In accordance with this legislative mandate, Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) has coordinated with Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Association (ARORA), Transplant Speakers International, Inc. (TSI), and the Arkansas Department of Health to make instructional materials available. The ADE, partnering with ARORA and TSI, is pleased to announce the launch of a blended learning approach to transplant education within health and driver education programs. This turnkey, online program is interactive, easy to use, and free-of-charge to students. It will complement the instructor-led speakers ARORA already provides.
To guide teachers through the online curriculum, representatives from TSI will offer training via videoconference on Tuesday, November 16, 2004. The videoconference may be viewed at local cooperatives and school sites. To accommodate the number of participants, there will be three sessions available. Interested health and/or driver education teachers may choose to register for any one of the following sessions: 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
