The state of Arkansas has recently joined the Assessment System for K-12 Educational Interpreters (ASK-12). This is a multi-state community of practice whose mission is to provide valid and reliable evaluation of K-12 educational interpreters to serve deaf and hard of hearing students in educational environments to address the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the No Child Left Behind Act.
ASK-12 utilizes the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) which has been developed to provide an ecologically valid assessment of an educational interpreter's skills. The EIPA is specifically designed to evaluate and measure the skill level of interpreters working with deaf children.
The Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education Unit will pay the $225 cost of administering the EIPA to any educational interpreter interpreting in a public school who does not have a minimum required level on the Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST). The assessment will be administered in Little Rock at the Arkansas School for the Deaf on February 5 and 6, 2005. Pre-registration is required.
To register, fully complete the attached registration forms and fax to the number indicated. Confirmed registrants will be notified by return mail. For additional information, email Cindy O’Riley at coriley@arkedu.k12.ar.us.
