The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Arkansas Association of Alternative Educators, Pygmalion Commission on Nontraditional education, and the following Education Service Cooperatives: Crowley’s Ridge, Dawson, Northeast Arkansas, Ozarks Unlimited Resource, and Southeast Arkansas are joining together to present five Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) trainings throughout the state to give assistance to school districts that want to start, improve, or refine the district’s ALE programs. Superintendents, principals, directors, counselors, teachers, paraprofessionals, and all other interested individuals are cordially invited to attend at any of the sites. There is no charge for these trainings. The meetings will start at 9 AM and close by 4 PM.

Ms. Lori Lamb, ALE Manager for ADE, will be the lead trainer. Ms. Lamb has an extensive history of working in alternative education. She has had experience in elementary and secondary ALE programs and most recently was employed by the Greenwood School District in a middle school ALE program. She is an excellent presenter and is eager to make contact with all school people. Arkansas is fortunate to have such a qualified person to head the alternative education programs.

The first half of the program will be informative with current law, funding formulas, ratios, requirements, implementation, and evaluation issues discussed. Questions and answers will be appropriate throughout the day.

The second half of the training will be filled with practical ALE classroom practices, suggestions, and creative ideas that will be specifically designed for age appropriate programs. Separate grouping for those interested in elementary or secondary programs will be arranged. It is important that ALE teachers and their paraprofessionals attend together. Social skills training, classroom management, and creative programming will be the primary focus.
