The State Board of Education approved Permanent Rules Governing the Requirements and Procedures for Renewing a Standard Arkansas Teaching License at the January 10, 2005 meeting.
Teachers will now have to meet the experience requirements (two years of experience out of the previous five years (or) the immediate previous year prior to the expiration of the license or six (6) hours of coursework) and professional development requirements (sixty clock hours annually beginning with the 2005-2006 school year) in order to renew the teaching license under general renewal requirements. Teachers must clear at least one background check with the Arkansas State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Verification of meeting the professional development requirements for teachers and the automatic renewal of teaching licenses will be done in APSCN. Additional information on the APSCN process will be provided at a later date. In order for application for the renewal of teaching license, the school district Superintendent, Principal or Director of Personnel shall verify on school district letterhead that the professional development requirements have been met.
The new Rules Governing the Requirements and Procedures For Renewing a Standard Arkansas Teaching License have been posted to the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and Professional Licensure web sites and is also attached to this memo.
