The Arkansas Arts Council will present its annual two-day Arts-in-Education professional development retreat Friday and Saturday, April 8 - 9, 2005. The retreat will take place at Camp Aldersgate in Little Rock. The cost is $85 per person and will include workshops, meals, and overnight lodging at the camp. The cost for making alternate overnight arrangements is $65.
The retreat is presented for artists, classroom teachers, and arts or community organizations. It is designed to explore new ways to bring the vitality of the arts to the classroom and integrate the arts into core curriculum or other program areas. Participating teachers will receive ten (10) in-service credit hours.
Lanie Keystone will conduct the series of workshops that will help teachers, artists, sponsors of arts programs, and others discover how music, theater, dance, and visual arts become an integral part of the learning process. The retreat will be conducted as a hands-on practicum using the interdisciplinary integration of the arts disciplines as vehicles for interpreting core classroom concepts. Lanie has been the institute director for Foster Educational Systems for eight years, heading a faculty of 15 arts educators, and presenting integrated arts institutes to K-university educators nationwide.
Carla Strott is the fine arts coordinator for Dekalb County Public Schools and is highly trained in Discipline Based Arts Education. Carla is also a professional organist and pianist.
