Arkansas Code Annotated Sec.6-16-130 (as amended by Act 245 of the 85th General Assembly) requires that beginning June 1, 2005, students in grades one through six (1-6) shall receive instruction for no less than forty (40) minutes in visual art and no less than (40) minutes in music each calendar week of the school year, or an equivalent amount of time in each school year, based on state visual art and music frameworks. The instruction in art and music must be provided by a licensed teacher certified to teach art or music, as applicable.

Districts must arrange schedules, hire staff, allocate space, and purchase supplies necessary to immediately comply with the emergency clause of Act 245 of the Eighty-Fifth General Assembly. Rules governing this act will be promulgated. This rule was approved by the State Board for public comment on May 9, 2005.
