2005 Charlie May Simon and Diamond Book Award Winners

The Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas State Library, and the Arkansas Reading Association are pleased to announce the results of the voting for the 2005 Charlie May Simon Children’s Book Award and the 2005 Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. More than 63,000 ballots have been cast and the results have been tabulated. The choice of the voting students is as follows:

CHARLIE MAY SIMON CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARD

LOSER by Jerry Spinelli is the winner of the 2004-2005 Charlie May Simon Children’s Book Award. It is published by HarperCollins.

BECOMING JOE DIMAGGIO by Maria Testa is the Honor Book for 2004-2005. It is published by Candlewick Press.


ARKANSAS DIAMOND PRIMARY BOOK AWARD

EPOSSUMONDAS by Coleen Salley and illustrated by Janet Stevens is the winner of the 2004-2005 Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. It is published by Harcourt Children’s Books.

SIXTEEN COWS by Lisa Wheeler and illustrated by Kurt Cyrus is the Honor Book for 2004-2005. It is published by Harcourt Children’s Books.

Both awards are under the sponsorship of the Arkansas Department of Education, the Arkansas State Library, and the Arkansas Reading Association, with support from other cooperating organizations.
