The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), Special Education Unit has coordinated with Arkansas Medicaid, the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC), and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) to offer three summer trainings for school-related Occupational, Physical and Speech-Language Therapy services. The first training will be held at the Jones Center for Families in Springdale, AR, on June 20, 2005. The other two trainings will take place at the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service State Office auditorium in Little Rock, AR, on July 5 and July 6, 2005. All three trainings will begin at 9:00 and end at 3:00. Participants will be on their own for lunch.
The trainings will include, but will not be limited to, the following topics:
- Information related to IEP requirements as a result of IDEA 2004
- Reviewing medical necessity standards
- Medicaid services documentation requirements for evaluations, progress notes, and commonly used tests
- Errors that lead to denial of reimbursement for therapy services
- Review of billing procedures
School district participation is highly recommended considering IEP changes, ongoing retrospective reviews by Medicaid, and the continued efforts by the ADE to increase statewide Medicaid claiming. Five hours of continuing education credit will be available for those who attend the training.
Registration for the training is required and can be completed by emailing Shelly Wier at swier@ar.easterseals.com.
