The State Board of Education gave final approval at the July 11, 2005, meeting for the Revised Rules Governing Incentives for Teacher Recruitment and Retention in High Priority Districts with an Average Daily Membership of 1,000 or fewer. Those approved rules are attached.
Amendments were made to Act 101 by Act 2151 of 2005. The changes were implemented in the revised rules.
Districts are reminded that this is a pilot program which is currently scheduled to be completed in the 2006-2007 school year.
Teachers who voluntarily leave before fulfilling the three-year obligation shall be required to repay the incentive bonus received.
Also new teachers hired by a High Priority District in the 2005-2006 school year will be paid the $4,000 incentive bonus, but the pilot will end in 2006-2007. Therefore, those newly-hired teachers in 2005-2006 will only be paid bonuses two years under the current law.
