The Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education, will provide a free one-hour live web-based training on the Co-Teaching Model on October 4, 2005, at 1:00 PM.  Dr. Lisa Dieker from the University of Central Florida, a national expert in the Co-Teaching Model, will provide basic information on the model including benefits, common implementation issues, roles and responsibilities of staff, and strategies for classroom instruction.  The web-based format will include a narrated PowerPoint presentation and opportunities for participants to ask Dr. Dieker questions about the model.

This training is designed to serve as an introduction to the model and will be valuable to staff where Co-Teaching is being considered or implemented.  More comprehensive training will be announced in the fall of 2005.  Suggested participants include building principals, special education supervisors, general and special education teachers, and other staff involved in staff development efforts.

Participants will need access to a 56K or faster Internet connection and a telephone with a speaker mode.  Participants may access the training via a personal computer, or administrators may invite a group to participate and use an LCD to project the computer screen for easy viewing.

Advance online registration for the meeting is required.  To register for the meeting, go to http://ccimeet.econfcall.net/pcrsvpform.jsp?refno=6439122.  Afterwards, an email with detailed instructions for joining the meeting will be sent.  To check a computer’s compatibility or for technical support, call Communiqué Conferencing at 1-877-283-7062 or make contact online at http://www.communiqueconferencing.com/.

If additional information is needed about this training or the Co-Teaching Model, contact Rose Merry Kirkpatrick at the Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education, at 501-682-4222 or rkirkpatrick@arkedu.k12.ar.us.
