Description: Similar to the regional meetings of years past, this Winter-Spring workshop, titled “Current Issues in School-Based Speech-Language Pathology” (SLP), will review national and state issues currently faced by school-based SLPs. During the morning segment, through lecture and small group activities, participants will be presented introductory information regarding rationale and practical implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) in the schools. Responsiveness-to-Intervention (RtI), the SLP’s role, and its impact on SLP workloads will also be reviewed and discussed. Participants will be asked to share and discuss participant’s roles in local and state literacy initiatives.

The afternoon segment of this workshop will consist of a structured “show and tell” time with various stations through which participants can choose to rotate. Stations will include extension activities for the morning’s content, new assessment products and self-study materials, classroom and literacy texts, video examples of two classroom-based intervention strategies, and an open station for individual participants to display and/or briefly share information and materials regarding participant’s favorite therapy programs, activities, and success stories. To contribute to “show and tell,” please complete and submit with the registration the attachment “My Favorite Station.”

Due to recent restructuring of the Arkansas Department of Education-funded consultant units (Outreach, ASERC, ESVI, Transition), Outreach will now charge a small registration fee for training. Individual and group rates are listed on the attached Fee Schedule. Please pay close attention to the group rates’ transition points to assure lowest price (e.g. 14 professionals @ $18 each = $252; 15 professionals @ $15 each = $225). Registration will be confirmed upon receipt of payment, which must occur at least one week prior to the date of training. No refunds will be issued; however, substitution of personnel will be allowed. Please be patient as staff work to implement and improve the new system for registering and receiving payment from workshop participants.

Note: Some educational services cooperatives (ESC) may also require registration on the ESCWeb to award credit for this professional development activity. However, primary registration, fee payment, and participant confirmation must come through the Easter Seals Outreach Program.

Five Continuing Professional Education hours (5.0 CPEs) will be available for the Speech-Language Pathologists attending. Certificates of attendance will also be available for teachers, assistants, and other professionals attending. All sessions will be conducted from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The 2005-2006 Schedule of Workshops is attached.

To register, complete the registration form and return it with the appropriate fee as indicated. For directions to a particular location, please call the number provided on the schedule for that site.
