The Arkansas Department of Education Office of Teacher Recruitment will host A Call to Teach: Pathways to Teaching, a statewide teacher recruitment event, on Saturday, January 21, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock.
Each year Arkansas schools experience shortfalls of teachers in subject and geographic critical shortage areas. Despite ongoing efforts, shortages remain in many teaching fields such as math, science, special education, and foreign languages. Shortages continue in Arkansas’ Geographic High Priority School Districts in all areas of licensure. The Office of Teacher Recruitment is working to recruit quality individuals into the teaching profession by providing this setting for interested parties to visit with traditional university teacher preparation personnel, Two-Year Associate of Arts in Teaching program staff, Masters of Arts in Teaching and Non-Traditional Licensure advisors, as well as subject area specialists and Arkansas Department of Education staff. Personnel from the Office of Professional Licensure and the Office of Teacher Quality will be on hand to answer questions. Licensed teachers interested in adding an area of licensure, community members, and school employees interested in becoming teachers will be encouraged to attend.
Superintendents, Education Service Cooperative Directors, Principals and School District Hiring Personnel are encouraged to share this information with licensed teachers wishing to add a degree or area of licensure and with community members and district employees such as substitutes, teacher aides and paraprofessionals wishing to become teachers.
The statewide TeachArkansas 2006 Job Fair (to be held in May) will provide a venue for school districts to recruit licensed teachers for the 2006-2007 school year. Date, time and location are to be announced at a later date.
