Special Show 2006 will be held at the Hot Springs Convention Center on July 26, 27, and 28, 2006. This conference is presented by the Arkansas Department of Education, Special Education Unit every other year and has become one of the state’s largest professional development activities. Special Show 2006 will focus on providing the latest information in the field of special education to special educators, general educators, school and program administrators, related services providers and parents.
The program this year will include a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Throughout the conference, the latest information regarding the use of assistive and instructional technology will be emphasized. A feature of this year’s conference will be a hands-on demonstration Showcase of technology and assistive devices to be presented by a number of the vendors.
Keynote speakers for the event are Harvey Alston and Frank Winstead, nationally recognized motivational presenters. Other presenters will share information on student assessment, behavior, autism spectrum disorders, early childhood intervention, co-teaching, low incidence populations, legal issues, addressing parent concerns, special health care issues, speech and language disorders, and a variety of other related topics.
Rooms for lodging have been blocked at all of the area hotels; however, it is necessary to make individual reservations as soon as possible. Contact information for the hotels is attached. The area hotels will release the block of rooms early, so it is important to make reservations immediately.
