The Office of Professional Licensure will automatically renew the teaching licenses for teachers/administrators whose license will be expiring December 31, 2006.

Automatic renewal will occur only for teachers/administrators that are teaching in an Arkansas Public School, Educational Service Cooperative, Arkansas School for the Deaf, Arkansas School for the Blind, Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences & the Arts and Arkansas Charter Schools.

Automatic renewal will occur only if:
* The teacher/administrator holds a standard teaching license that expires December 31, 2006.
* The teacher/administrator has completed at least one background check.
* The teacher/administrator was employed during the 2005-2006 school year.
* The teacher/administrator has completed 60 hours of professional development during the 2005-2006 school year, inclusive of the required educational technology, parental involvement, training in Arkansas History for teachers that provide instruction in this area and the required training in data disaggregation, instructional leadership and fiscal management for administrators.

Professional Development will be verified in the APSCN Cycle I report by filling in the professional development field with 60 hours. This Cycle I report should be ready for release to schools by early August. It is imperative that this field be completed no later than September 10, 2006.

Please check teachers holding a ten-year license to be sure that at least one background check has been completed. Both parts of the background check must be cleared by September 1, 2006, in order to be renewed automatically. Teachers/administrators that do not meet all requirements for the auto renewal of the teaching license must submit an application for the renewal of the teaching license to the Office of Professional Licensure.

All copies of licenses that are automatically renewed will be mailed to the place of employment for the 2005-2006 school year. It is anticipated that the renewed licenses will be mailed in November of 2006.

Schools may access a listing of all teachers whose license will be expiring during the 2005-2006 school year through the Arkansas Department of Education Statewide Information FTP Site at the web address of ftp://165.29.215.34.

Once the web address has been reached, double click on the yellow folder labeled Certification, double click on the icon labeled Certification-Licensure, click on Open, click O.K., click on List of Certified Personnel by Selected District with Expiration Date, enter the first (4) digits of the District LEA number, enter the licensure expiration year 2006, click O.K.

Teachers with a license expiring in 2006 will be displayed by building. The arrows in the lower left hand corner will be highlighted when more than one page is listed.

Please direct questions regarding this memo to Ron Tolson, Coordinator, Professional Licensure at 682-4342.
