Child Nutrition Directors should mark the dates on the calendar and register for the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Child Nutrition Unit (CNU) CN Directors’ Conference and the New Directors’ Orientation. The theme for 2006 will be “60 YEARS of CHILD NUTRITION”. The meetings will be held at the Wyndham Riverfront, 2 Riverfront Place, North Little Rock. Hotel information is given below, and a registration form is attached. Please send one registration form for each person attending.


DIRECTORS’ CONFERENCE

The Directors’ Conference will be held August 1 and 2, 2006. The registration packet can be picked up at the registration table in Foyer A near the Silver City Meeting Rooms. Registration will take place from 7:30am to 8:30am and a continental breakfast will be provided.

The program for the Directors will include communicating with school officials, certification and staff development of Arkansas Child Nutrition employees, new audit standards and interviews, new United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recipes, Healthier US Challenge, school Food Guide Pyramid for children and other updates.


NEW DIRECTORS’ ORIENTATION

The New Directors’ Orientation will be held on July 31, 2006, from 9:00am to 4:00pm. This training is for first-year directors, superintendents or independent managers.

The ADE Child Nutrition Unit will provide training and orientation for the agreement/policy statement, collection procedures, meal patterns for menus, record keeping requirements, procurement, children with special needs, student involvement and available resources.

The registration packet for the New Directors’ Orientation will be available at the table located in Foyer A near Silver City Meeting Rooms beginning at 8:30am. A continental breakfast will be available.

Wyndham Riverfront Hotel accommodations must be made BY JUNE 9, 2006. To reserve rooms at special rates, call Wyndham Hotel reservations toll free at 1-866-657-4458 or call the hotel directly at 501-371-9000. Be sure to request the ADE Child Nutrition rates of $69.00 per night for a single room. Add $10.00 for each additional person sharing a room. Hotel policy does not allow more than four persons to a room. There will be an additional $15.00 per day charge if a rollaway bed is requested. The above rates will not be applicable after July 15, 2006. Reservations should be made as soon as participants are approved to attend the meetings.

The ADE Child Nutrition Unit is looking forward to seeing all Directors at the conference and new Directors at the orientation.
