The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will host a teleconference Friday, September 8, 2006, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am for the purpose of providing information regarding Intensive Reading Interventions (IRI) and Academic Improvement Plans (AIP). The teleconference will provide information on the rules governing the IRI and AIP and instruction in navigating the data collection site located on the NORMES Website.

Act 35 of the Second Extraordinary Session of 2003 (codified at Ark. Code Ann. Sec. 6-15-1804(a)) and the Arkansas Comprehensive Testing, Assessment and Accountability (ACTAAP) rule require that all students in Kindergarten, first and second grades with substantial deficiencies in reading be provided intensive reading instruction. All K-2 students who fail to achieve at the proficient level in reading or math on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills are required to have an AIP or an IRI in the deficient area. All students who fail to achieve at the proficient level on the state Benchmark Examinations are required to have an AIP to remediate deficient academic areas.

This teleconference is offered in response to schools' request for additional training in navigating the IRI and AIP data collection site. School personnel responsible for the implementation of the IRI and AIP who desire a review of the information should plan to attend this teleconference.

Please register through an Education Service Cooperative. Attendees from the Little Rock District are directed to attend the teleconference at Metropolitan Voc-Tech High School. Pulaski County attendees are directed to the Fuller Administration Building. North Little Rock attendees may attend the training at either the Metropolitan Voc-Tec High School or the Pulaski County Fuller Administration Building.
