The 2006-2007 Body Mass Index (BMI) will be collected and reported electronically. There will be no software to purchase, no printing of forms or labels, no packing and shipping of assessment forms, and no waiting for reports to be processed.
Appropriate school personnel will be trained by the local Community Health Nurses (CHNs) at the educational cooperatives to enter the BMI requirements of students’ height and weight directly into a web-based system created for this purpose. Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI) staff will train the CHN in the web-based entry system in October. CHN will set up training schedules and notify appropriate school personnel of the electronic training dates during November and December of 2006.
The new web-based system will have the ability to generate individual child health reports for parents, and school and district reports after data has been entered. Actual measuring may be done ANY TIME AFTER SCHOOL STARTS, but the electronic data entry CANNOT BEGIN UNTIL JANUARY. This will allow APSCN’s Cycle 2 student data to be entered. After this occurs in October, student data will be received by ACHI and loaded into the web-based system.
