A new course code number of 973900 has been approved for the 9th Grade Resource Math class. This course code number is to be used for the students with disabilities enrolled in the 9th grade resource math course and assessed with the 9th grade math portfolio beginning with the 2006-2007 school year. This code will be recognized by Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN) for accountability purposes and will be used when calculating the participation rate for students assessed with the 9th grade math portfolio.
Students enrolled in a 9th grade resource math course shall have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) stating that the student cannot benefit from participation in Algebra I or Geometry. No general education, Section 504 or alternative education students may be included in this course. The student’s IEP mathematics goals shall guide the IEP team’s selection of Student Learning Expectations used to assess progress toward Mathematics Standards of Algebra I and Geometry. It is recommended that all teachers of the 9th grade resource math course become familiar with and use the Resource Guide for 9th Grade Math that was distributed last school year. This Resource Guide may be found in the archives section, Arkansas Department of Education Special Education webpage, at http://arksped.k12.ar.us. Arkansas teachers are responsible for integrating appropriate technology.
