Last month a new course number, 973600, was created for 9th grade special education mathematics. This new course number does require highly qualified status for the teacher in the area of mathematics.

Also, there are some additions to help schools/districts in the Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) designation for two groups of teachers:

1) Teachers in any of the 6th grade classes using course numbers 366110, 366120, 366210, 366310 and 366320 may be designated as HQT in the area of Elementary. Please feel free to add this designation area to the other designated areas of Middle Childhood or the specific subject area.

2) Teachers of course numbers 453000, 553010, 559800, 559810 and 659000, Survey of Fine Arts, may be designated as HQT in the areas of Art or Music. (Previously only art was listed.)
