The State Board of Education gave final approval of the Rule Governing the Arkansas Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program at its September 11, 2006, meeting. The purpose of this Rule is to establish and implement the process governing the Arkansas TOY Program.
Districts are informed that the attached Rule includes a process for allowing the 2006-2007 Arkansas TOY to work in residence for a year with the Department of Education for the purpose of providing professional development and technical assistance to local school districts and for the Arkansas TOY to serve as a non-voting member of the State Board of Education.
Additionally, this Rule will allow the Arkansas TOY to return to the former school district with no loss in pay, benefits or salary due to being on administrative leave while serving as Arkansas TOY. The salary, benefits and incidental expenses incurred by an Arkansas TOY will be approved and reimbursed by the Arkansas Department of Education.
