The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) is pleased to partner with the Weyerhaeuser Company and Arkansas Department of Environment Quality (ADEQ), to announce that entries are now being accepted for the 2006-2007 “Excellence In Recycling” Program.
The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation’s Excellence in Recycling program rewards schools that teach the wise use and reuse of our natural resources through school-wide recycling programs. A total of $10,000 is awarded each year, with $1,000 available for each of the top 10 schools. Awards will recognize schools for education, collection, start-up, and/or expansion of current recycling programs.
Winners will be chosen for education, collection, start-up and/or expansion of recycling programs. No awards will be made to individuals or to benefit specific individuals. Members of a selection committee managed by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation will judge the applications.
Weyerhaeuser, which has been in the recycling business since 1974, is one of the nation’s largest recycling companies – and the largest that actually uses the recyclable materials it collects. The forest products company does not operate any recycling centers in Arkansas, but is a major purchaser of post-consumer recyclable paper in the state.

To be eligible, applications sent via US mail must be postmarked and submitted by January 19, 2007, to:
