Each school district shall be responsible for conducting two (2) school bus inspections each year. The mid-year inspection should be made during December, January, or February. The inspection standards may be found on pages 9-1 to 9-9 of the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Administrator’s Handbook for Safe School Transportation. The Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation (DPSAFT) regulations require that all school buses be inspected semi-annually within a minimum interval of four (4) months and a maximum of six (6) months. The mechanic conducting these inspections shall use the Arkansas State School Bus Safety Inspection Form.
A state inspection will be completed annually by the state school bus inspector. Upon successful completion of the state inspection, a sticker will be affixed to the school bus windshield. If a school bus does not pass the inspection, an out-of-service sticker shall be issued and that bus may not be used to transport students until repairs are completed and the bus has been released by the state inspector.
Each district will continue to report school bus information on the Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN) cycle 6 report. Attached is the Arkansas school bus mid-year inspection report form.
