The Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation is preparing to conduct courses for special needs drivers, aides and attendants. While this course is not mandated, it is strongly recommended by the division for all persons involved in the transporting of special needs students. The training will meet the requirement for the state mandated three (3) hour in-service training.
The course will be scheduled over a two day period. School Districts are asked to schedule this course by contacting the office of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation at 501-682-4264. Districts are asked to coordinate with surrounding school districts to insure a maximum class attendance size of 12 to 15.
The course will contain:
•Safe driving techniques
•Building student’s medical folders
•Understanding medical and physical needs
•Importance of team work
•Hands on demonstration on special needs evacuation process
•Hands on demonstration on proper restraint systems
•Understanding of the I.E.P. process as related to transportation
•Certification in 1st aid and C.P.R.
