The education service cooperatives will again sponsor a one-day workshop to fulfill the requirements for counting identified gifted and talented students being served in secondary content classes by a teacher, not a trained specialist, in gifted education.
For the first time this workshop will be conducted via CIV at each of the state’s fifteen education cooperatives. Hopefully this will be more convenient to schools and teachers. The schedule will be as follows:
Monday, August 6, 2007 - Mathematics
Tuesday, August 7, 2007 – Science
Wednesday, August 8, 2007 – Social Studies
Thursday, August 9, 2007 - English
Workshops each day will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and participants must attend the entire four (4) hours for completion of this required training and to obtain certificates of attendance. This will be the only statewide workshop conducted this summer. Teachers should make plans to attend.
The workshops will be for teachers of mathematics, science, social studies or English. Districts that wish to count identified gifted students enrolled in a secondary content option, as formally receiving gifted and talented services, must send any content teacher, not having previously attended an approved in-service workshop, unless a waiver has been granted by the Office of Gifted and Talented.
Please have teachers, requiring this workshop, register through the education service cooperatives or in the case of Pulaski County districts, through the Administrator of Gifted Programs in each individual district. The deadline for registration is July 6, 2007; however, teachers hired after this date are eligible to attend.
