Several Acts during the Regular Session of the 86th General Assembly of 2007 amended the requirements either school districts or the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) have regarding information to be placed on the Internet. Act 54 of 2007 and Section 1 of Act 1573 of 2007 amended Ark. Code Ann. § 6-11-129 to state that the school district’s Website shall not include employees’ phone numbers, signatures, or personal addresses as part of the contract information published on the Website.
Act 1573 of 2007 also amended the same code to shifting the location of some of the required data from the Department of Education’s Website to the school district’s Website. The required information and data is to be made easily available and accessible by including, on the Department’s Website, direct links to the Websites of all Arkansas school districts.
Two other acts added information that must be made available on the Department’s or school district’s Website. Act 1587 of 2007 amended Ark. Code Ann. § 6-11-111 (c) to require the annual report of the state board to be made available to school officials either in printed copy or through a link to the annual report on the Department of Education’s Website. Act 1587 of 2007 also amended Ark. Code Ann. § 6-20-2304 by adding section (b) which requires the Department to include a link on its Website to legislation concerning public school funding. This amendment would also require the superintendent to provide each member of the district’s board of directors the Website address where the member can access specific legislation and provide a printed copy of the legislation if requested.
Finally, Act 1588 of 2007 amended Ark. Code Ann. § 6-13-619 (a) to publish on the district’s Website a notice of the date, time and place of all regular meetings of the board of directors no less than ten days prior to the date of the meeting and the same information no less than 24 hours prior to a rescheduled regular meeting.
