The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) has reviewed the “Resource Guide—Developing School Policies and Training Programs for Children with Special Health Care Needs” (1996). Due to changes in various laws, rules and regulations, a new resource guide has been developed and will replace the 1996 guide. It provides information and guidance for any school district providing special health care for any student with special health needs. Forms, including health care plans, medication administration, and others are included in the appendices. In addition, the May 2000 Arkansas State Board of Nursing School Nurse guidelines, as well as consent forms are provided in the Resource Guide.

A workshop will be provided by the ADE for an overview of the resource manual, with emphasis on the Special Health Care Plan, medication administration, HIPAA, FERPA and other regulations, will be discussed. School nurses and an administrator from each school/district are strongly encouraged to attend on June 13, 2007, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or June 14, 2007, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The training will be held at the North Little Rock High School East Campus Auditorium, 2400 Lakeview Road. Sessions will be limited, so participants are encouraged to register early.
