The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Teacher Recruitment and Retention program will host 'Pathways to Teaching', a statewide teacher recruitment event, on Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock.

Teacher Recruitment strives to recruit quality individuals into the teaching profession by sponsoring this event to address shortfalls of teachers in subject and geographic critical shortage areas. Attendees may visit with traditional university teacher preparation personnel, two-year Associate of Arts in Teaching program staff, Masters of Arts in Teaching and Non-Traditional Licensure advisors, as well as subject area specialists and Arkansas Department of Education staff. Personnel from the Office of Professional Licensure and the Office of Teacher Quality will be on hand to answer questions. Licensed teachers interested in adding an area of licensure, community members and school employees interested in becoming teachers are encouraged to attend.

Superintendents, Education Service Cooperative Directors and Teacher Center Coordinators, Principals and School District Hiring Personnel are encouraged to share this information with licensed teachers wishing to add a degree or area of licensure and with community members and district employees such as substitutes, teacher aides and paraprofessionals who wish to become teachers.

The event is free and the Exhibit Hall will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Those interested in attending one of the hourly Non-Traditional Licensure Program Information Sessions are required to register in advance. This can be done online at www.teacharkansas.org.

A separate event, the statewide TeachArkansas 2008 Job Fair (which will be held in May) will provide a venue for school districts to recruit licensed teachers for the 2008-2009 school year.

For more information on either event contact Christina Villareal (501-682-6349, christina.villareal@arkansas.gov) or visit www.teacharkansas.org.
