The Library Media Framework 2007 and the Foreign Language Curriculum Framework Revised 2007, approved by the State Board of Education on December 10, 2007, are now posted on the Arkansas Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks Web page: http://arkansased.org/teachers/frameworks.html.

The first edition of the Library Media Framework contains student learning expectations necessary for K-12 students to acquire the skills to select, evaluate, and use information appropriately and effectively. School librarians should collaborate with teaching staff to provide instruction, learning strategies, and practice in using the essential learning skills needed in the 21st century.

Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year, all instruction involving library media and foreign language education, K-12, shall be aligned with these frameworks. The Foreign Language Curriculum Framework Revised 2007 supersedes all previous curricular documents.

An interactive videoconference will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., to introduce the new framework documents. All curriculum coordinators, foreign language coordinators, and library media specialists are encouraged to attend this videoconference.

Attendees must register with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) for this videoconference, no later than Friday, February 22, 2008, by completing the online registration form: http://arkansased.org/reg/civ_library_fl.htm. and also register through the education cooperative or school district in order to receive local professional development hours.
