The Arkansas Department of Education announces the 2008 regional and state mathematics contests sponsored annually by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM). Regional contests will be conducted in five subject areas: Calculus; Pre-calculus and Trigonometry; Algebra II; Geometry; and Algebra I at 16 regional sites on Saturday, March 8, 2008. A list of regional sites with contact information is attached to this memo. Registration information and questions regarding the regional competitions should be directed to the regional contest director nearest the local school district. Students in private schools, home school, and charter schools are eligible to participate.
Contest rules as well as regional and state exams from the most recent two years can be found on the Web site below. Instructors should note there is a $2.00 registration fee per student for participation in the regional contests. The fee is payable to the regional director at the time of registration.

The state contest is set for Saturday, April 26, 2008, on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Participants for the state contest are identified from the top three scores from each region and other invited regional contestants as noted in the contest rules.
