Ark. Code Ann. §§ 6-16-603 and 604 mandates that a College Preparatory Enrichment Program (CPEP) be made available for students in grades 11 and 12 scoring below 19 on the ACT test. The attached forms are to be used by superintendents to indicate participation in CPEP 2008. School districts may operate independently, establish a consortium with a neighboring district(s) or assign funds to the area education service cooperative or higher education institution. All funds MUST be spent for the operation of CPEP during the summer of 2008 or be returned to the state.
Funds for the 2008 summer remedial program will be distributed to school districts based on a poverty index calculated for the percentage of free/reduced meals. Superintendents will be notified of the funding allocation for the district in late April or early May. Last year’s amount can be used as an estimate. When making plans for CPEP, districts must remain within the allocated amount. School districts, consortia, area education service cooperatives or higher education institutions designed as service area sites that exceed the allotment will not be reimbursed. The following forms are attached to this Commissioner’s Memo and must be completed by the indicated dates to facilitate the timelines for the program:
The CPEP INTENT TO PARTICIPATE form must be returned no later than March 24, 2008.
The CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION form must be returned no later than April 16, 2008.
The CPEP TRAINING REGISTRATION form and CPEP END-OF-PROGRAM REPORT forms must be returned according to the dates indicated on the forms.
