The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), through the Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN), funds the cost of connecting the Arkansas school districts to the statewide network. The Department of Information Systems (DIS) sends monthly billing to APSCN for the active circuits for each district. In the past, the invoice listed names of building sites where the circuits are installed but did not link the circuits to a specific LEA number. Since building names are often different from district names, it was nearly impossible for APSCN to determine what circuits belonged to which district. This past year DIS has made a valiant effort to tie the circuit numbers back to an LEA number.

In order to verify the accuracy of this effort, APSCN with DIS assistance, will be emailing verification forms to all district superintendents listing the circuit ID numbers, the bandwidth in bps (bits per second), the name and address of the sites where the circuits are installed, and a blank column for making corrections or comments. There will be second page to the form titled “Additional Circuits” which will appear blank, but has space to list School LEA, School Name, and Address for any circuit IDs that are not on the first page of the form. The email address that the form will be sent out from will be ade.apscn@arkansas.gov.

Verify each circuit as accurately as possible. Circuit ID’s usually are written or printed on the service providers demark which is typically a box mounted to the wall near the DIS router. Circuit ID’s are normally in a format such as “63 HCFK 765696.” Please reference the verification form for the specific circuit ID’s to be confirmed for the district. The demark is usually found by tracing the wires back from the router. One (or more) wire(s) should be the LAN (Local Area Network) connection, one should be the power cord, and the last one (or more in the case of multiple T1’s) will be the WAN (Wide Area Network) circuit connection.

Again, the email will be sent to the district superintendent. The superintendent may designate a person such as the school district technical coordinator to be responsible for verifying the information and responding to the email. The deadline for returning the verification form is Wednesday, April 30, 2008.
