During the State of the State address in January, Governor Mike Beebe requested that Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) work together with Arkansas Department of Information Systems(DIS) to conduct an assessment of technology in the public schools. A project team was formed and, as part of the project plan, DIS has been working with Arkansas public schools in order to implement and complete the project plan.
This governor initiated assessment of educational technology in the State of Arkansas is quickly drawing to a close. The last day to provide any data for the project requirements is April 1st.
Please ensure that the local district has implemented all 5 processes that will provide the correct data needed in the project. DIS will help any district that is in need of assistance with the processes. To obtain assistance, call DIS at 1-800-435-7989.
The 5 processes that must be completed are:
1. PC Audit – This is a login script that will collect information on the number and type of workstations on the district network. It is best for it to run on the network for 2 weeks, and therefore, should be implemented no later than Friday, March 21st in order to have the data in to DIS on time.
2. Nessus Scan – This is an application that will gather information on network vulnerabilities and network printers.
3. Survey 1 (LEA Survey) – This survey should have been completed once for each LEA within the district.
4. Survey 2 (District Survey) – This survey provides district wide data to DIS.
5. Survey 3 (The Grade Level Survey) – This survey provides data based on grade levels.
