Congress has appropriated funds for a limited expansion in all states of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). This is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program which offers free fresh and dried fruits and fresh vegetables to students during the school day. For School Year 2008-2009, participation in this program is limited to only 25 elementary schools in Arkansas.
The selection of these 25 elementary schools will be based on applications submitted by elementary schools and evaluated using criteria required by federal regulations. This grant is for the period July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009. For School Year 2008–2009, the level of funds provided to any one school will depend on the demographics of schools that are selected to participate in the program.
This is a one (1) year grant NOT ASSOCIATED with the Commodity Distribution/Department of Defense (DOD) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
A Distance Education Workshop will be held on THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2008, to discuss the program goals, the application and selection process and the requirements of the schools selected to participate. The three-hour Workshop will be offered from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. Sheila Brown, Suzanne Davidson and Robert Ginder will review the requirements, application and selection process and benefits of the program. Child nutrition directors, superintendents, elementary school principals, wellness committee chairs, school nurses, bookkeepers and school business officials will benefit from attendance at the Workshop.
REMINDER:
This is the last Distance Education program presented by the Child Nutrition Unit for School Year 2007-2008. The programs will resume in September 2008.
