The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority are pleased to announce a professional development opportunity for Arkansas educators.
SMART Portal: Integrating Technologies Into Lesson Plans
Teacher Professional Development Workshop
May 5 & 6, 2008
The SMART Portal contains a collection of excellent hands-on inquiry driven science and mathematics lesson plans developed by teachers over the past two years at workshops hosted across the state. Although the lesson plans are all samples of “best-practice” lessons that are cross-linked to the Arkansas educational frameworks, the lessons have not been necessarily enriched to use 21st Century Skills. The purpose of this workshop is to take the lessons and to add an overlay of optional methods of integrating technology into the lesson plan materials. In effect, the objective is to take excellent lessons and add an optional “wow” factor by integrating 21st Century Skills that enhance and enrich each lesson.
The two-day training event will feature nationally-known professionals, Mr. Dan Morris, Ms. Bethany Hudnutt and Mr. Jeff Krause, who will present a series of optional techniques and examples for enriching lessons with 21st Century Skills. The participants will then break out into small groups and, in a hands-on approach, will re-work the lesson materials to incorporate practical and readily available technologies that will enhance the activities.
