Beginning March 4, 2008, schools were able to begin submitting course syllabi and Advanced Placement (AP) Course Audit forms through an entirely web-based process for 2008-2009 course authorizations. New for 2008-2009, the Course Audit form is submitted electronically directly through the Course Audit Website. Printing and faxing have been eliminated. Principals can also begin renewing course authorizations for previously authorized courses.
The preferred initial submission date for the AP Course Audit materials for 2008-2009 courses is June 1, 2008. The College Board cannot guarantee that courses that begin the review process after this date will be authorized in time to be included in the November 2008-2009 AP Course Ledger. The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) uses the College Board’s AP Course Ledger to cross reference all AP courses listed on Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN). Therefore, the AP courses for each high school need to be approved on the Ledger. The Ledger will be updated on a weekly basis throughout the year to reflect newly authorized courses. The FINAL DEADLINE for submitting AP Course Audit materials is January 31, 2009.
It is imperative that any teacher teaching an AP course must have the course approved by the College Board. Otherwise the course cannot be labeled AP, the course will not be counted as one of the four required AP courses offered, students cannot get the weighted credit, and the state will not pay for the AP Exams.
Please follow the directions in the attachment to this memo for all instructions and situations for AP course approval. This information can also be found on the College Board website at apcentral.collegeboard.com or apcourseaudit.epiconline.org.
