The Environmental and Spacial Technology (EAST) Initiative is hosting a series of EAST Logistics, Management, & Administration (ELMA) workshops to be held at various locations around the state. ELMA workshops are scheduled for the following dates:

September 23-24, 2008: Little Rock, AR
October 14-15, 2008: Fayetteville, AR
December 2-3, 2008: Harrisburg, AR
January 13-14, 2009: Texarkana, AR
March 17-18, 2009: Monticello, AR

Attendance at the two-day workshop is required for schools with new EAST programs, EAST schools with new administration, and EAST schools that have applied and/or received the EAST upgrade grant in 2008 or 2009 per the Legacy Statement of Assurances Agreement.

During the two-day workshop, the vision and purpose of the EAST Initiative as well as relationships with state and national organizations currently engaged with the EAST Initiative will be presented. Cross-curricular pathways using the EAST technology to achieve meaningful community service will be explored. Student selection, placement, and overall scheduling along with summer and after-hours possibilities will be discussed. Logistical issues related to student travel, conference participation, and periodic equipment upgrades will be discussed and best practices shared.

Participation in the workshop will satisfy the annual six hour technology professional development requirement. The workshop is designed as a fun, entertaining way to prepare and assist all levels of school staff supporting the local EAST program. Schools that register a team of people find it to be highly effective in helping the local EAST program succeed. It is especially beneficial for building administrators and school guidance counselors to attend because of direct involvement with the local EAST program. Additional district and building personnel are also encouraged to attend.

Registration is required. Register now by clicking on the ELMA icon at www.eastproject.org. Seats are limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Email registration confirmation will include specific location information.
