Secretary of State, Charlie Daniels, is pleased to announce the availability of a new civics CD-ROM titled, “The ABC’s of Citizenship.” This CD-ROM provides civics lesson plans developed by Arkansas teachers, for kindergarten through grade 8. All of the lessons are aligned to the current Arkansas Social Studies Curriculum Framework Revised 2006, Amended November 2007.
The lesson plan development was a partnership between the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), and Secretary of State Charlie Daniels’ office. “The ABC’s of Citizenship” offers creative ways to teach civics in the classroom, especially in this election year, by integrating teaching strategies and resources into existing curricula. Lessons on the powers of state and federal governments, state symbols, and civic responsibilities are part of the offerings that help illustrate how government affects students and how students can affect government.
