The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) announces a six-day training (4 days in the summer of 2009 with two follow-up days during the 2009-2010 school year) opportunity for secondary mathematics teachers focusing on “Strategies for Success in Algebra II.” This training will be offered at various locations around the state (see attachment for list of locations).

The purpose of this workshop is to provide training for current and future Algebra II teachers in the state of Arkansas focusing on innovative teaching strategies while addressing the Arkansas Algebra II Content Frameworks and the connection to the American Diploma Project and the Achieve, Inc. assessment for Algebra II. The workshop focus will include such topics as general functions, linear functions and systems, quadratics, polynomial and rational functions, exponentials and inverse relations, and periodic functions with the appropriate use of technology as it relates to the exam.

The training was developed in the 2008-2009 school year by Algebra II teachers, secondary mathematics specialists, and college professors under the direction of the ADE. The training will be lead by a university professor and an experienced Algebra II teacher.

For more information concerning registration and location, please contact a training site coordinator. This is a six day training; teachers should plan to attend all six days.
