According to H.R. 1, Public Law 107-110, No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) – 2001,Title X, Part C – Homeless Education, Subtitle B of Title VII of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11431 et seq.), Section 722(g)(6), Arkansas shall ensure that each of the 245 local educational agency (LEA) Homeless Liaisons, designated and identified on the Statewide Information System (SIS) - Arkansas Public School Computer Network (APSCN) “Cycle 2 Report”, are informed of duties and responsibilities to ensure the rights and services for each child and youth experiencing homelessness. The training will be Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 201 South Shackleford Road in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Barbara Duffield, Policy Director for the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, will address the LEA requirements under the McKinney-Vento law and report updates on policy changes. An ADE Arkansas Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (ACSIP) advisor will review Title 1 requirements for addressing the education of homeless children and youth.
