The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Accountability Workbook (Workbook) used for determining Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) includes a definition for New School that was approved by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). The definition of New School can be found in the Workbook located on the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Web site under No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
Schools eligible for a New School designation should complete the attached Re-Configured Schools form and e-mail a copy to Dr. Gayle Potter at gayle.potter@arkansas.gov or fax to 501-682-4886 by Friday, May 15, 2009.
Schools are reminded that the New School definition can be applied only once in any three-year period. Furthermore, the Re-Configured Schools form will serve as a schools intent to be “held harmless” for the immediate year of the re-configuration. If a particular school “meets standards,” then that school would receive the higher AYP designation rather than the “hold harmless” designation.
