On April 17, 2009, the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) co-sponsored a meeting to discuss developing state-led core standards for English Language Arts and mathematics. Representatives from 41 states, including Arkansas, attended this meeting, as well as representatives from ACT, the College Board, and Achieve.
Because of this state-led, national standards initiative now underway, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will temporarily delay revising the English Language Arts Curriculum Framework. When sufficient information on the state-led core standards in English language arts is available, the revision of the Arkansas English Language Arts Curriculum Framework will move forward. More information will be forthcoming as it is available.
