The United States Department of Education requires parental notification of supplemental services and school choice for all schools in school improvement. All schools must use the preliminary Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status to inform parents of supplemental services and school choice. Schools are prohibited from waiting until the receipt of the final AYP status to inform parents of the supplemental services or choice options that are to be offered as per the Accountability Workbook, Critical Element 1.6. In addition, schools are to be informed that the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will not hear any AYP appeals without evidence of the above mentioned parental notification.
The decisions will make it possible for the ADE to meet the timeline requirements set forth by the United States Department of Education (USDOE). Likewise, the decisions will insure that the students of Arkansas are receiving the services that must be provided to the students.
