Webcast on Energy Cost Cutting Strategies in K–12 Operations and Maintenance (O&M)
July 16, 2009: 12:00 - 1:15 pm Eastern
Schools spend more on energy than any other expense except personnel, yet energy is one of the few expenses that can be reduced without sacrificing educational quality. Implementing energy-efficient operations and maintenance strategies can save as much as 20% in energy costs, extend the life of equipment, and improve the overall physical environment in school facilities.
A no-cost, live webcast on Thursday, July 16, 2009, sponsored by SchoolDude and presented by Margo Appel of the U.S. Department of Energy and Roger Young of Roger Young and Associates, will focus on strategies from the new Guide to Operating and Maintaining EnergySmart Schools. The strategies can help facility managers and school administrators:
• control energy costs by identifying and implementing O&M repairs
and retrofits
• prioritize O&M actions by estimating life-cycle costs and benefits
• make the business case for a sustained high-performance O&M plan
• integrate high-performance O&M into school energy policy
The webcast will also feature presentations by Doug Heurich, Director of Facilities at Northbrook School District 27 in Illinois, and Joseph Piantedosi, Director of Plant and Facilities for the Town of Andover, Massachusetts, who will discuss initiatives and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce energy use.
