Please review the following ACTS that impact public schools pursuant to the Regular Session of the 87th General Assembly of the State of Arkansas. The Acts of the 87th General Assembly can be found at http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2009/R/Pages/Home.aspx and can be viewed in PDF format or printed for review.

Act 201 Expands the Membership for the Committee on Personnel Polices for Classified Employees in each school district to include “custodians” in the first category with maintenance and operations.

Act 621 Requires all employers to provide unpaid break time and reasonable locations for expressing breast milk. This break time is not required if to do so would create an undue hardship on the operations of the employer.

Act 702 Requires public school personnel health benefit plans to comply with the Arkansas’ Patient Protection and Any Willing Provider laws.

Act 944 Eliminates the requirement that members of the National Guard or Reserve, who are teachers or administrators, pay for the cost of a substitute employee when the member is on military leave.

Act 1203 Allows the superintendent’s employment contract with a school district to be terminated for cause and without the school district having any further financial obligation to the superintendent.

Act 1492 Modifies the role of the Classified Public School Employee Personnel Policies Committee to include determining policies, reviewing polices, and to proposing additional policies to the district’s board of directors.

Act 1493 Modifies the role of the Licensed Public School Employee Personnel Policies Committee to include determining policies, reviewing polices and to proposing additional policies to the district’s board of directors.

Please review the acts as public school districts must act in accordance with the laws of the State of Arkansas.
