The State Board of Education approved the Amended Economics Social Studies Curriculum Framework on July 13, 2009. The amended framework is now posted on the Arkansas Department of Education Web site and is titled, ECONOMICS SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK REVISED 2006 AMENDED JUNE 2009. This document supercedes previous revisions. Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, one-half (1/2) unit of economics is required for graduation and may be counted toward the required three (3) social studies credits or toward the six (6) required career focus elective credits. If the course is taught by an appropriately licensed social studies teacher, credit may be applied to meet graduation requirements in social studies or toward the career focus electives. If the course is taught by an appropriately licensed business education teacher, graduation credit can only be applied toward career focus requirements. All instruction in the area of economics shall be aligned with the amended framework. The entire Social Studies Curriculum Framework containing the recently amended economics course may be accessed at http://arkansased.org/teachers/frameworks2.html#Social.
