The Easter Seals Arkansas Technology and Curriculum Access Center, in collaboration with the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), will offer professional development in the form of two, six-hour workshops discussing access to digital materials during the Fall semester of the 2009-2010 school year. The workshops are intended for special education teachers, vision teachers, related services providers, paraprofessionals, and administrators. The goal of this workshop is to discuss how the development of DAISY and the use of refreshable Braille have served to bridge the gap between the printed word and access for students with print disabilities (physical, sensory and cognitive) to materials. This workshop will address various resources for obtaining digital talking and text/Braille books such as BookShare, Recordings For the Blind and Dyslexic, The National Library Service, and other public domain repositories, as well as the steps involved in acquiring and downloading digital books.
Cost of each workshop is $100 per person. This workshop will be offered at the Easter Seals Technology and Curriculum Access Center on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 14, 2009: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 4, 2009: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
