The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Teacher Recruitment and Retention program will host an event entitled “TeachArkansas: Alternate Routes to Teaching”, a statewide teacher recruitment event, particularly for secondary education, on Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Airport Holiday Inn in Little Rock.
Teacher Recruitment is working to recruit quality individuals into the secondary teaching profession by sponsoring this event to address shortfalls of teachers in subject and geographic critical shortage areas. Attendees may visit with school districts throughout the state to learn about positions that may become available, university teacher preparation personnel, Masters of Arts in Teaching and Non-Traditional Licensure advisors, as well as subject area specialists and Arkansas Department of Education staff. Personnel from the Office of Professional Licensure and the Office of Teacher Quality will be on hand to answer questions.
Superintendents, Education Service Cooperative Directors, Principals and School District Hiring Personnel are encouraged to share this information with anyone holding a bachelor’s degree who would like to become a licensed teacher, particularly at the secondary level.
The event is free, and the exhibit hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Those interested in being an exhibitor or attending a Non-Traditional Licensure Program Information Session should register online at www.teacharkansas.org.
