Northwest Arkansas Education Cooperative is pleased to announce the receipt of an Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grant award from the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE).

The grant will provide Arkansas teachers and students in grades six, seven, and eight with one-year subscriptions to ExploreLearning.com’s award-winning library of online simulations for math and science, called Gizmos.

What are Gizmos? Gizmos are powerful additions to any math or science classroom, helping students develop a deep and lasting understanding of math and science concepts. Gizmos are perfect for use in a computer lab, in small groups, or in whole group instruction with an LCD projector or interactive whiteboard. They are accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection anytime.

Middle school teachers have access to the simulations, customizable inquiry-based lessons, formative assessment and real-time reporting, instructional background for teachers, and correlations to Arkansas’ Math and Science SLEs.

Students have access to Gizmos at school and at home, giving them the opportunity to explore, experiment, and visualize as they learn.

Districts who wish to participate should complete the attached Subscription Request Form and return it to Arkansas’ Gizmo Project Manager, Pam Berry: pberry@explorelearning.com or by fax to: 501.262.9638 or phone: 501-262-1502.

There is no cost to a district for the subscriptions, but there is an expectation that teachers will participate in professional development offered by the local education service cooperative.

Gizmos are another valuable Resource Project (TIARP), a joint project of all Arkansas Education Cooperatives.

Questions may be directed to: Teresa Chance, at teresa@starfish.nwsc.k12.ar.us or 479-267-7450.
