Ark. Code Ann. §§ 6-11-105 and 6-16-604 and Act 1469 of 2009 mandate that a College Preparatory Enrichment Program (CPEP) be made available to rising twelfth-grade students and high school graduates who will enter college in the fall immediately following the completion of their senior year, and who scored below 19 on the math or English portions of the ACT. The attached forms are to be used by superintendents to indicate participation in CPEP 2010. School districts may operate independently, establish a consortium with a neighboring district(s), or assign funds to the area education service cooperative or higher education institution. All funds Must be spent for the operation of CPEP during the summer of 2010 or be returned to the state.

Funds for the 2010 summer remedial program will be distributed to school districts based on a poverty index calculated for the percentage of free/reduced meals. Superintendents will be notified of the funding allocation for the district in late April or early May. Last year’s amount may be used as an estimate. When making plans for CPEP, districts must remain within the allocated amount. School districts, consortia, area education service cooperatives, or higher education institutions designated as service area sites that exceed the allotment Ark. The following forms are attached to this Commissioner’s Memo and must be completed by the indicated dates to facilitate the timelines for the program:

The CPEP Intent To Participate form must be returned no later than April 1, 2010.

The Confirmation Of Participation form must be returned no later than April 21, 2010.

The CPEP Training Registration form and CPEP End-Of-Program Report forms must be returned according to the dates indicated on the forms.
